Alan Aragon’s Blog

November 14, 2009

Mr. Aragon has a blog and my first thought is…’bout time.  My second thought is….that is wicked cool.  You know, I wouldn’t even have known about it if someone hadn’t found their way to this blog from his blog (good old stats) and I’m pretty honored that he quoted me over there.

I’ll be keeping up and talking about interesting things that develop there but in the meantime get yourself on over Alan Aragon’s Blog.

Strength Training Tips and More

November 2, 2009

TipDrop.com is a new micro-blogging service that allows users to post concise tips on areas they have a particular expertise in. Similar to Twitter and others but focused on actual tips rather than “I just swallowed my gum” sorts of posts. Users can create focused tip sheets so that tips are organized by subject.

I will be using TipDrop to post many useful tips and I hope that they will be of service. My “vision” is that these types of short tips will allow my visitors who are just getting into training to either figure out what questions they want to ask or to help them find a direction for their research. Sometimes knowing where to start is about knowing what you want to know!

You may (I hope) desire further discussion about some of the tips you find there. Please feel welcome to drop by the GUS Forum and post a thread on it and ask me (Eric) directly if you want. If something I say doesn’t sit right then I’ll be happy to defend my statements or revise them as needed. The link is below:

Homemade Medicine Ball Instructions And Videos

August 2, 2009

Here are some do-it-yourself notes and videos showing how to make your own homemade medicine balls.

This works. I have made medicine balls using methods similar to these and I use them all the time.

These homemade balls, of course, will not bounce, which is a useful function of a medicine ball as well so if you want bouncy ones you will need to buy them. But no need to wait. If you have an old basketball or any other balls of various sizes lying around then it’s fairly simple…

Myths and Misconceptions: Torsion Springs, The Dog Leg, and ‘Handedness’

July 23, 2009

Joe Weir has posted another piece in his series on grip training and specifically torsion spring heavy hand grippers. If you are interested in using grippers or even if you are experienced you should read this.

Joe tackles the so-called dog leg myth which states that holding a gripper on the dog leg side provides more leverage or makes it easier to close. Then he discusses left-handed versus right-handed grippers.

He not only explains but provides the mathematics to back it up. Complete with diagrams. I’m quite in awe of the whole thing and if you can get this thorough an analysis at any other site but GUS I’ll eat my hat!

Deadlift Questions?

April 14, 2009
THE VIPER They're not Viper Tires, but Derek ...
Image via Wikipedia

I notice a great many searches for deadlift are landing people here to my blog.  Hopefully, for those searching for specific things they are getting the information they need.  I know that, according to the search terms, that info is here or has been pointed to at GUS or elsewhere.

But if you are looking for more general information about performing the deadlift, bringing up the deadlift or just whether or not you should use the deadlift in your training, then you’d be much better served to come on over to the GUS Forum and ask a question.  We’ll have you lifting like the guy in the picture in no time :)

Or just come say hello and we can talk about how much we all love deadlifting.

I can go on and on about generalities but you will ALWAYS get better answers in response to a SPECIFIC question.

You can post as a guest if you’d like and we’ll be happy to help but we would love to have you as a member.  Perhaps you’ve never posted on forums before or at least you’ve never posted on fitness related forums..well, we will do our best to make you feel comfortable with it. One thing you will find is that the GUS forum is a good balance.  We don’t take ourselves too darn seriously but we also don’t engage in a bunch of smarmy adolescent shenanigans :)

Leigh Peele’s New Site…

February 13, 2009

Leigh Peele has been talking about her new site, FLZine, for a little while. Now she has officially “announced”.

Coming March 1st. And all I can say is I think it is going to be all that and a bag of chips. fltsbookimage I mean, I’m involved so it’s already hyuuuuuuge….;). I am completely on board with what Leigh is doing. There is no agenda here unless it is calling out the crap shovelers in the industry and providing people with some real answers.

Check out Leigh’s FatLoss Troubleshoot package and also download the podcasts if you haven’t already.
